Colorado requires individuals interested in starting a family child care home business to complete pre-licensing course as part of the licensing process. This 15-hour Family Child Care Pre-Licensing course is a crucial step in becoming a licensed provider.
Course Content
The pre-licensing course covers essential topics for child care providers, including:
Child care rules and regulations
Child growth and development
Developmentally appropriate practices
Administration and business practices
Health, nutrition, and safety
Family and community partnerships
Cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion
Professionalism
Additional Required Training
In addition to the pre-licensing course, prospective providers must complete:
First Aid and CPR for infants, children, and adult
Standard Precautions (minimizing the spread of germs, preventing disease)
Medication Administration
Registration and Completion
To complete the licensing requirements, providers must:
Register in the Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System (PDIS)
Take some online courses through the PDIS platform
Complete the 15-hour Family Child Care Pre-Licensing course approved by the Colorado Office of Early Childhood
